Lets talk about the Virtual pool boy or in other words Blue Connect Plus. (check it out here)

This unique product has been produced by Astral and out for some time. We have only recently seen high increases in items like this due to Covid 19 and customers liking being at home more.

So what does it do and how can it help? With a lot of systems going to WiFi (and to tell you the truth what part of our lives doesn’t have an app to control it in some way) the Blue Connect Plus is virtual pool care at its best. Your very own pool boy who lives in your pool 24/7, 365 days a year. Imagine being on an island (with wifi) with your children at home wondering if the pool is okay to swim; you can test it there and then with out even getting up.  You can give your pool shop the link and let them monitor your pool for added convince, no matter where you are we can help with this Hint Hint!!.

What does it do? It monitors PH, OPR (chlorine),  conductivity (salt levels) and temperature. You will still need to visit a pool shop or complete home testing for calcium, alkalinity, phosphates and for any specialised testing for the likes of iron and copper, so best suited to salt and magna pools. The app will alert you when one of the items is to high or low and ask you to correct, its a great feature as with busy lives we are all time poor and forget to monitor our pool.

Some features which are actually useful. It will display weather information in case you cant get out of bed to check before looking outside.  Recommendations on chemical adapted to your pool. Plus data history going back to when you stated using the app- Great for any warranties especially on pool blankets.

Can you install yourself? You can complete this in about 3 minutes Astral are saying. I have tried it and I think I manged to complete the set up in less time with a toddler at my feet, so hooray for simply easy tasks. You download the app which takes you through getting the key and serial number needed to link. You do have to check if you have the required sig fox coverage for it to work. Sigfox Coverage areas check here  . Then take the bottom storage cap off the unit and put the rubber thing (I am sure it’s called some serious name) on, put it in your pool and your done!! Now if you want to install the system in line at your filtration this will take a professional or more time to complete by yourself. I just put mine in the skimmer, best to not show your kids where it is. It also comes with a rope if you want to tie it off somewhere, great if your running a suction cleaner and cant have it in your skimmer box.

How to care for the unit? This is not a hard process or messy one. To break it down you use the storage cap that came off the unit originally, add the needed calibration solution and do everything on the app. Video below to show you just how easy it is.  It is a two part process depending on what you are calibrating.

Thoughts! So let me tell you my honest thoughts, I actually loved it. It easy to use, monitor and care for. Its always on your phone. Sitting on the couch or getting the kids ready for a swim, the ability to check the water at a whim is easy and useful. Getting the kids ready for a swim you can double check the chlorine is not too high in the time it takes them to get dressed, maybe even faster if you have a stubborn toddler and have them swimming in no time. Now don’t let the product fool you, you still need to monitor other important level in your water it can not do everything. Overall it’s a great product to have that made maintaining my pool easy.
